Williamstown High School has a long history of success on the mats. The Yellow Jackets have won state titles twice (1982, 1983) and have been state runners up 7 times. In addition, Williamstown has been 7 time Region I Champions and has claimed eight conference championships in the Little Kanawha Conference. There have been 42 individual state champions, 104 Region I Champions, and 104 LKC Champions from Williamstown High School.

Coaching Staff
Williamstown is coached by Dennie Uhl (3rd year). Uhl is a 1996 graduate of Williamstown High School where he won the state championship in 1996 at 160 lbs. under Hall of Fame Coach Bob Pickens. He was also a two time Region 1 champion and a three time LKC champion and the 1996 Most Outstanding Wrestler in the LKC. He is a West Virginia University graduate and obtained his Masters at Marshall University. Uhl has wrestled in all levels of wrestling in Williamstown. He is a Special Education teacher at Jackson Middle School in Wood County. The assistant coaches are made up of a pair of former WHS wrestlers - Josh Flesher and Bobbie Kelley. Flesher, who missed last season serving in Iraq, was a 1996 graduate of WHS and a state runner up at 160 lbs. in 1995 and was 4th at 171 lbs in 1996. Kelley is a 1985 graduate of WHS where he finished 4th in the state at 112 lbs. He wrestled at the college level at Muskingum College he also ran the Williamstown Youth League wrestling for 14 years.

2008 - 2009 Outlook
Williamstown will be fielding a mixture of veteran wrestlers and new faces. The Jackets return three state place winners in Seniors Tyler George (3rd, 140), Senior Mark Board (3rd, 152), and Junior Cody Kelley (3rd, 103), and two other state qualifiers in Junior Matt Hendrickson (171) and Sophomore Zach Zide (119). Senior Tyler George has a chance to break the career record for wins at WHS (Shane Smith, 158 wins), George currently sits at 129 career wins. Other wrestlers who may break into the 100 Career Win Club at WHS include Senior Mark Board (94 career wins) and Cody Kelley (71 career wins). Other returning starters include Seniors Michael DeSiano, Joe Palm (missed most of last season to a knee injury), Tom Collins, Aaron Jones, and Brandon Yost. New faces that could break into the Yellowjacket line up are Seniors Cody Matheny, Stephen Wolf, Junior John Marshall, and Freshmen Brett MacIver, Tanner Leftwich, Mike Adams, Chris McDuffy, Evan Smith, and Chris Spiker. As in the past several seasons, the success of the Yellowjacket football team is expected to continue deep into the playoffs and with several wrestlers on that team it may be early January before the Jacket line up is set. .

Williamstown High School wrestling is fed by its Junior High Program. Williamstown Jr. High School is headed up by first year head coach Cody MacIver, a former WHS wrestler and state place winner. He will be assisted by Tim Haddox, a former WHS state champion.
