Directions to school: Exit I-64 at Beaver exit. Take Rt. 305 to stoplight at Beaver (about two miles). Turn left on Rt. 19 and follow Rt 19 south to Shady Spring, about 5 miles. Turn left onto Rt 3 East for approximately one mile. School is on the right.

Coach Danny Carter will continue to head the program at Shady. Coach Carter is a former SSSHS wrestler (1982-84), having wrestled under Coach Dix Manning and Coach Snuffer. Carter headed the Junior High Program from 1991, until becoming the Shady Spring assistant in 1998.

Assistant Coach Mason Epperly is a two time WV State Champ in 1964 and 1965 and Runner-up 1966. He also wrestled for Coach Dix Manning and had a son who wrestled and placed in the states in the mid to late 80's, also Coached by Coach Manning and Coach Larry Snuffer.

Assistant Coach Jeff Lester was coach Dix Mannings first and only second generation state Champion in 1984 at 105 lbs., he was also, state runner-up in 1983 at 98 lbs. Jeff wrestled at Liberty University for four years.

For 2009-10, Shady adds a new assistant Coach -- Mr. Larry Ransom. Larry is a very knowlegeable and supportive Coach. He. like the rest of the Coaching staff Wrestled for the now deceased Dix Manning, and should be great asset to the team. Lary was an accomplished wrestler at Shady Spring and was a member of the last State Championship team at Shady.

Shady Spring High School has the wrestling credentials to make anyone's list of top West Virginia High School wrestling programs. Coach Dix Manning (AA/A Coach of the year 1981, 1987) began his tenure at Shady Spring in 1957 and until his retirement in 1998 produced ...

-- State championship teams in 1963, 1964, 1980, 1981, and 1987
-- State runner up team in 1986
-- Seventeen regional championships (including 10 in a row)
-- Fifteen Coalfield Conference championships
-- Over 300 dual meet victories, and
-- 25 individual state champions.

Coach Manning literally coached two generations of athletes at Shady Spring -- Bill Lester (champion 103 lbs, 1959) and his son Jeff Lester (champion 105 lbs, 1984). Manning was a charter inductee in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, West Virginia chapter.
