Clay County High School

Panthers -- Wrestling

Clay County High School resumed its wrestling program in 1998-99 after a 10-year hiatus and hopes to get back to its position as one of the top AA/A wrestling schools in the state.

Clay has produced five state champions in past years, including:
Eddie Sizemore, who, in 1977, became state champion in the 119 pound class;
Johnny Brown, who not once, but twice had state champion status - took the weight class of 105 in 1981 and then the 119 pound class in 1981;
Joe Cummings, who swept the 132 pound class in 1980, and then in 1981 and 1982 took state championship status in the 138 pound class;
Terry Dean, who won in 1984 in the 112 class, and
Jay Carper, who won in 1987 in the 132 class.
