I'm not taking anything away from the state champions, in which yes Region 4 had the most. However as a whole, it is much easier to send a full team of wrestlers to states in regions: 2-4 compared to region 1. Region 4 only has eight returning underclassmen, that's less than double of Reigon1, so of course Point Pleasant will have an easier time taking their whole team to states, compared to Fairmont Senior, Cameron, Oak Glen, and Berkley Springs. Same goes with regions 2-3.

I'm just having fun. You had 256255 examples supporting region 1. Now you have at least 1 to support region 4.

Region 4 has Point Pleasant and that's about it. Nitro, Wirt, Winfield, and Sissonville will have a handful of good wrestlers every year but other than that, that's about it. Its a cakewalk for Point to send their entire team to the state tournament year in and year out. Meanwhile it is basically unheard of for a school in Region 1 to send their full lineup to Huntington. I honestly can't remember a team in Region 1 that sent their entire team to states since Region 1 has added Berkley Springs, and Marion County schools. I know Oak Glen used too back in the day, but that was before the schools I mentioned were in Region 1.

I think Point would send just as many kids if they were placed in any other region.

I think you should re-read the previous post for better clarity on the subject. You say you are just having fun but what is fun about getting proven wrong? It is obvious Region 1 is the toughest region to qualify a full team. The total number of state placers displays that. Are you saying Region 4 is tougher because 1 team had 6 state champs. Thats it? What about the other teams? How many top 10 teams were from Region 4?? Im not sure where you found any example that supports your argument

Not in Region 1, if they were in region 1 could they send their whole team? Yea they could, however could they do it on a year to year basis like they do in Region 4? No way.

So what region is the most difficult to win?
Guys, don't take things so seriously. I've never said region 1 isn't a tough region. I presented information that showed that region 4 had the most state champs. Seems to me like a region with that many champs would be a difficult region to compete in.
Re: 2023 Returning AA Placewinners by Region
I'm not disagreeing with your original concept, but not sure of some of your follow-up thoughts. I'm not going to take the time to do the research, but the significance of "taking a full team" is insignificant if the wrestlers don't score any points at the state tournament. Therefore a true test of "tough region" could be the average score of the fourth place wrestlers from each region in the state tournament. Certainly the large number of placers in AA/A Region one supports the "tough region" theory, just not sure of the full team theory concept. The more perennial strong teams there are in a region, then the tougher it is and the teams that moved into region one that were mentioned certainly made it tougher, just like moving PHS and South to region 4 in AAA a few years back significantly shifted some of the "toughness".

We have had this same discussion in previous years. Yes, Point Pleasant qualified their entire team. But here is what their entire team did:
106: Qualified but didn't compete.
113: State Champion
120: State Champion
126: State Champion
132: Made it to the blood round. Lost to eventual 3rd and 6th placers.
138: 5th place
145: State Champion
152: State Champion
160: State Champion
170: Made it to the blood round. Lost to the eventual champion and third placer.
182: Went 1 and 2. Lost to the eventual 5th and 6th placers.
195: Made it to the blood round. Lost to the eventual 2nd and 5th placers.
220: 4th place
285: Runner up.
Based on the final results, Point Pleasant qualified their entire team because their entire team was good. Now, if a given team qualifies their entire team and then they have few place winners, then their region could be deemed weak. 14 wrestlers qualified, but only 9 placed, or 64%.
Fairmont Senior won AA/A Region 1. They qualified 10 out of 14 weight classes. 7 of their wrestlers placed at the states, or 70%.
Yes, Point qualified more. However, their team produced more once they got to the state tournament. 7 finalists.
Did Fairmont Senior have a ranked wrestler NOT qualify because he was in a weight class with more than four ranked wrestlers?
Holy smokes. Braxton Amos works out with a landmine now!!!!!!

Re: 2023 Returning AA Placewinners by Region
Some of your logic amazes me. How many weight classes had 3 or more state placers from the same region? That is the definition of a tough region. Its typically not easy placing from a third or fourth region spot yet Region 1 had 5 weight classes with 3 placers. Region 4 had 0 weight classes with 3 placers. Region 4 has 3 returning placers from the rest of the region besides point. You put berkeley springs or oak glen in that region they will qualify more for states and score more state tournament points. People care about more than just team titles or individual champs. We all know right now Point doubles up second place. So obviously they would still win from another region. But the rest of the region is weak. Other than point there are only 3 returning placers (8 total) from region 4. Thats it! Compare that to Region 1 with 25. Please tell me again how a region could have as many placers as the other 3 combined and not be considered the toughest region.

Since it is not clear who you are directing your comments toward, I will put on my red hoodie and respond.
Based on the original post to start this discussion, or course Region 1 is the toughest next season. Every season region 1 has 1,2,3 plus top wrestlers coming from all or most of the region's teams. My point was that it wouldn't have mattered if Point was in another region. Point had too many kids win or place higher than all of the region 1 wrestlers.
Furthermore, my point was that Point Pleasant didn't qualify all of their team because they were in a weak region. They had the best team.
I will concede that if Point Pleasant was in region 1, they would have only qualified 11 to 12 wrestlers instead of all 14.
Holy smokes. Braxton Amos works out with a landmine now!!!!!!
