Individual pools are wrestled and depending on how many pools there are either the the winner of or top two move into a bracket. This style of tournament is common in Ohio and guaranteed to get the wrestlers 4-5 matches in.
We attended a tournament in Ohio last year: 18 people in a weight 6 pools of three 1st out of each pool to a bracket, 2nd out of pool to their own bracket, and 3rd placers in their own placing all 18 kids. I liked it because after the initial pools kids were wrestling opponents Of equal talent

I believe the Brooke Classic has this format. It's gives your less advance wrestlers a drop down bracket to get matches and your more experienced wrestler a challenge for better matches and yes everyone usually gets at least 5 matches..
