Yes, Nice did place 6th last season @ 182 but, he lost his second rd match to eventual state champion Marquis Frazier 8-4 then lost in the cons semis to Haught due to injury default(I believe it was a serious concussion). Caleb should win his first championship this season.

I think this weekend at the wsaz would've been a big step for 2 big dutton nominees in 195, Noah Adams Indy vs Justin Allman of pburg south. But I guess we'll never know, unless they meet at the duals

But Nice is a 195. He will choose the path of least resistance.

First let me say thank you for adding Caleb's name to this group of great wrestlers. Second let's keep the rude comments to yourself. Third yes he did place 6th at states last year after receiving a serve concussion during the second period. Although he did finish the match the doctors would not let him continue and was forced to injury default the remaining matches. Lastly as for the path of least resistance, he is weighing 205-210 depending on what day it is, and even though he did make base weight for 195 his first match and had to cut weight he wrestled up to 220 and beat the number 1 ranked wrestler at 220 in the OVAC. Caleb went on to win the OVAC tournament at 220 beating many quality opponents from both AAA / and AA/A.
Thanks again,
Patrick Nice

I had the opportunity to watch Caleb wrestle at the OVAC tourney this year and he did a remarkable job at the 220 weight class. Making history at Magnolia High when he became their first OVAC champion.

It is good to see a wrestling program grow at a high school where football and basketball has taken the spotlight for years. Good job by the coaching staff and wrestlers for their program.

I second what Gator says. The point is that whomever wrestles Nice at whatever weight is in for a rude awakening.

Here is who I see as the only contenders:

Class of 2017:
Adams/Independence
Hart/Independence
Allman/South

Class of 2018:
Humphreys/St. Albans
Henson/University

History shows that a senior is selected.
These guys are not in any order.
Each wrestler mentioned has accomplished more than any other wrestlers in their graduating classes.
There are many other wrestlers who are very good and could set the world on fire in college, etc but they haven't achieved what the wrestlers mentioned above have.

The season is approximately half over and the WSAZ is upon us. Here is where we are based on my knowledge:

Class of 2016:
Simpkins/Ripley - Undefeated in WV competition this season.
Moore/Roane - Lost via decision to Humphreys/Class of 2018.

Class of 2017:
Adams/Independence - Undefeated in WV competition this season.
Hart/Independence - Undefeated in WV competition this season.

Allman is tough as nails so let me start off by saying that. Imo you have to take him out of the running if there is a such. I have no clue how or who votes for this award but imo Allman can't get the dutton. It is my understanding that this prestigious award goes to the most dominant and best lb4lb wrestler in the state. If you lose to a wrestler your exact grade and weight that would take you out of contention unless you avenge the loss at one point. Allman is a stud from a great program who has and will continue to win for a long time. I can definitely see an OW award but imo he has to avenge that loss for the Dutton

With that argument of undefeated in WV,
Cole Laya EF- state champ 106 as a fr, and 47-0 this season.
Brock Whorton EF- state champ as a fr, and undefeated in WV this season. Only loss to Greg Quinn of Shadyside.
Cole Ritchie Cal- 4th as fr, 3rd as soph, state champ as jr, undefeated in WV this season, hasn't lost to an instate wrestler since Cody Clifton in the semis his sophomore year.
3 guys that can't be overlooked and having stellar seasons.

Wil Cox Indy- 5th as a fr, 5th as a soph, state champ as jr, undefeated in WV if I'm not mistaken. And front runner for another state title at 145

"Undefeated in WV" is not an argument. It has been used to provide status updates on the top contenders for the Dutton award. All the wrestlers mentioned are top notch, but their accomplishments do not match the front runners.

Polish the trophy. I predict a 142 lb Will Cox will win the 152 lb division en route to his Dutton Award.
