Girls state tournament Feb 8th at Pkbg South

Postby brentsams » Thu Oct 31, 2019 7:20 pm

The SSAC and coaches committee has approved a girls only state tournament at PKBG South on Feb 8th. This is not an official Girls State tournament but is trial tournament to see how much interest and participation within our state for a state tournament. There will be two divisions, a high school division and a middle school division. Details will be coming forth in the next couple of weeks. We will be using modified weight classes for this event.

Girls wrestling is the fastest growing high school sport in the country. Last year there were 17 states that hosted girls states with more projected this year.

I’m very excited for this opportunity for our states female wrestlers. Thank you for giving these girls a time to shine!

What if a girl is not on a team (because there are no girl teams), but trains and would like to compete? How do you “qualify” and or sign up?

I called Wayne Ryan at the WVSSAC this morning because John Marshall has a tri the same day as this tournament. He said as long as a coach attends with the female wrestler(s) from your school, they are OK to attend and to put both events on your schedule so you can get an eligibility weigh-in sheet. He stated they want to get participation at this event as high as possible.

A girl has a chance to make history, jumpstart what hopefully becomes an annual event OR she can go to the LKC, get her head torn off and go 0-2. Easy choice.
Holy smokes. Braxton Amos works out with a landmine now!!!!!!

WOW!!!!!!!! WV has so many girls that are forecasted to play a major role in leading their team to conference titles that this Girls state tournament is causing a problem. WV had 4 girls qualify for the state tournament last season. On February 8th, that weekend is all about the ladies. Most of the conference tournaments have evolved into a joke. Wrestling would be better off to combine all of these sputtering conference tournaments into one big super tournament. Put together something worth watching, something worth burning a weigh in on and generating some competition for the kids. "Conference Team Titles" could still be handed out. Go look at the results of all the conference tournaments last season. The LKC is basically the only one worth attending. Bringing on the SUPER CONFERENCE BATTLECADE.
Holy smokes. Braxton Amos works out with a landmine now!!!!!!
