Re: Trackwrestling and Flo
Yeah this needs fixed. Same program they run the WSAZs with. I could only attend 1 of the days at States, but even when I attended the States and the Zs, you have to find the team that’s on a particular mat, click on that team, to find out who is wrestling and then do it for the team that a kid is ...

Re: Eligible for weight classes
There has been some coaches giving wrong information about how much you have to weigh to be in that weight class. Can't believe coaches don't know. Example. A kid weighs 150.1 before the weight allowance is considered to be a 157 pounder. That being said he CAN wrestle in the 165 lb weight class. A...

Re: Separating #1 and #2
KDunbar you are correct. Regardless of which region you are in the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in the same region will be on the same side of the bracket and opposite of their regional champion. Additionally, if there is not a clear cut ranked #2 I believe the intention is to leave that weight clas...

Re: AAA Compiles Team Rankings
The state championship will not be determined by the number of individual champions but by the depth of place winners. And possibly by which team is healthy at the time. Many of the top teams still have some good wrestlers out with injuries. I imagine they all will be back for regionals; but will t...

The bigger question is: who is doing the rankings and is there any criteria on the rankings?

Re: Intercepted Memo - Separating #1 and #2
Regional situation: Just a thought. 1 and. 2 are in the same region. 1 or 2 injury defaults semis, receives a bye in the wrestle backs and defaults to 4th place and qualifies foes states. Will they split them and how?

Re: Weight Classes
My sons team has 5-6 kids 190 - 300 lbs on the team. All with a desire to wrestle. 18 or so kids on the team total..... 30% of the team competing for 3 spots. Exactly this a prime example. The worst part is wrestling benefits offensive and defensive linemen (aka the big boys) the most in football. ...

Re: Tournaments- Dual vs Individual
Dual tournaments offer individuals more matches as they are guaranteed matches and don't just go 2 and out as happens in individual tournaments. They also offer better opportunities for better matchups if opponents are in different weight classes. It also encourages wrestlers to score more points i...

Thanks for pointing that out. The rule says continuing acts. Am I missing something here. You agree that he should be punished for something another teammate did? I don’t know who you surveyed and don’t care but the ones that agreed with the call doesn’t surprise me. Probably the same ones that tol...

Mike, You certainly did not offend me in any and for the most part I agree with what you have said. Here is the part that you left out in the rule. You presented the list of misconduct, I agree with all of that. The part you left out is “ may be viewed as flagrant “ . Who determines flagrant, I dou...

Re: Rules and situations
It's been a couple of days since this happened and I have kind of had to let it sink in a bit. I've been silent for good reason. I do have some thoughts on this. 1. He was not the first athlete disqualified for offensive language on the mat in this tournament. 2. He was not the first from that team ...

Re: Seeding the State Tournament - Hybrid Pill
You are probably correct, but my point was it didn't matter whether they did a blind draw, a pill, or a "seed" decision, it could be the luck of the draw that helped decide the outcome because different teams match up differently in a dual format. That was the theoretical example I gave, ...

Re: Seeding the State Tournament - Hybrid Pill
The point of the tournament is to crown a champion. by definition, the best wrestler will win out independent of seeding. If you are arguing about who should finish second or third, you are missing the point of the tournament But is that the whole point of the tournament? Some would argue that deter...

Re: Seeding the State Tournament - Hybrid Pill
Just an FYI, WVYWA has been using this system for 7 years now and it has worked very well. take 6 from each of 4 regions and then seed the 4 regional champions and pill the rest. It was also suggested to the coaches committee at the 2020 State tournament. I know this because I gave this system to M...

Re: Memo from Bill Archer Regarding Seeding the State Tournament
Not that I care as much since I have moved from WV, but I decided to test how long it would take to dig up info without WV having a standard for officially entering all matches per wrestler prior to regions entry, which would help greatly. But the 182 that we speak of if your starting order was Sta...

Re: AAA 113 - Take 2 Pills and Call Us in the Morning
This is how I see it. Bailes is clearly the 1 seed. Perry beat Carman at Brooke and Perry and McFarland have gone back and forth. Clearly #2 and #3, pick your poison with that, making Carman the #4. Perry beat McFarland at Regionals, making Perry #2 entering the state tournament and in essence maki...

Re: New State Tournament format
I don't understand why we can't just seed the 4 region winners. Even if 1-2 finishers in region whatever are ranked 1-2 in the state, they can still be separated easily in the bracket. Region winner and runner-up stay separated no matter where the winner gets seeded in the state bracket. But the pi...

Re: Brooke classic
What is the format ? Should be a split bracket tournament. Loser in the first round are shifted to a new bracket and begin wrestling again. Winners move forward and basically operates as a normal tournament from there. Usually they place out to top 6. First of all, thanks to Mike for the team list....

Re: AAA State Duals Tournament Qualification Conundrum
It also doesn't help that it's in a remote area of the state. Not a bad trip for region 4 but regions 2 and 3 for AAA are typically coming from the furthest away part of the state does not help. I am glad they decided not to use previous year's regional champions, however, I do agree that there need...

Wheeling Park should also benefit with the return of Bigger Carmen who sat out last season. And a healthy Hunter Nixon, who wasn't able to wrestle all year until the regionals, where he placed first and then 3rd at the State tournament. And a healthy Brayden Lucas who missed most of the season and ...
