South /PHS predictions

Postby TrueSouthFanInPburg » Tue Jan 28, 2020 12:09 pm

If South puts Amos at 285, I have South winning 60 to 20.

Any favorite memories from South vs. PHS match? Most exciting match between the two schools?

None of the matches were real closely contested. 120 was a kind of a good match with Donahue getting into some risky looking positions that he was able to come out of for TD's. It was a little disappointing that each schools best wrestler not get to wrestle an actual match in their last dual of the rivalry.

The 81 or 82 match when a senior hwt from PHS a senior and was heavily favored went against a young South soph and South needed a pin if I recall and came out and got the pin, that’s the loudest I ever recall PHS field house when South got the pin!

That's the match. 1981 - 1982 Season. I was the back up heavyweight for South at the time. PHS was winning the match 28-24. Our heavyweight pinned the PHS wrestler with 30 seconds left. South won 30 - 28. I will never forget that moment. They say it was so loud that people in the surrounding homes came outside to see what was happening. Great stuff and some great traditions.

The entire PHS team paid for it dearly! Never seen Joe so mad at the entire team in my entire life that night.

Lol. I can only imagine what that wrestling room was like. Those were some good ole days with Oldham and Handlan. They were certainly some intense days. Wouldn't trade them for anything in the world.

I agree South83. Rod Oldham was a very good man and always cheered me on in the summer tourneys. We even had a heart to heart talk after I won the WV Open States. He did not care that we were once rivalries, just a good man. But Joe, will be like a dad always... but that day ... we lost to South.. was just good memories of our younger lives. Hope everyone stays healthy and remember it is just a sport for the kids to enjoy like we once did!
