In addition, we still do not know who is wrestling and who is not.

Nobody really addressed the original topic. The OP asked about top 5 in each weight class. So far all I see is lists ranging from 3 to 10 wrestlers with no mention of weight class. I think at least one list even has AAA and AA?A mixed together.
With that said, making a list of the top 5 in each weight class is tough right now since so many wrestlers are still moving around and many still have not wrestled.

Re: Top 5 wrestlers
@NotYosemiteSam not bad. I agree, few results makes it tough.
You left Levi Jarvis off of your list. He was at 182 this weekend, but should be at 170 soon. Weight loss was set back by illness. He placed 2nd at 170 last year, so if Hart has gone up to 195 then Jarvis should be the early favorite at 170 or at 182 if he stays there.

Coach Williams, fully agree on Jarvis. Complete oversight. I also remembered after posting a freshmen Heavyweight at Fairmont Senior by the name of Frazier that will move to the top 2 on my edit tonight. Will get Jarvis added in there on my initial list. Looks to be some competitive weight classes this year.
Re: Top 5 wrestlers
I like Garrett Ware - Heavyweight from Grafton. Was in the semifinals at states last year when he broke his wrist. He's back and hungry.
Re: Top 5 wrestlers
Peyton Carey, Herbert Hoover, state runner up at 285 is missing on your list.

Is Carey wrestling. I may have over looked but could not find on their roster. If so, will add, please confirm.
Re: Top 5 wrestlers
Word had it at Point last weekend that Hoover was missing a couple wrestlers including Carey due to taking the ACT.

I follow mostly the lower weight classes so I can't intelligently speak on anything above 138 but I can tell you one thing.......East Fairmont has the best starting 4 in the state. Whorton/Cassucio(106), Flint(113), Laya(120) and Whorton(126) will all be state champions. Too bad either Whorton or Cassucio will not be able to make the trip to Huntington because both are the top 2 in AA/A.

Not taking anything away from the 4 that you mentioned. However, there is a AAA school that has a much better starting 4...just saying

I racked my brain there is no AAA any better than East Lowers weights. I had the pleasure of watching three of the four compete at the VA Beach Duals over the summer they were outstanding! The young Whorton boy was beating seniors very good ones and he was only in the eight grade. Laya and the other Whorton will repeat and Flint is as tough as they come. Please tell me the AAA school that is "much better"
Re: Top 5 wrestlers
Dan, I'm sure he's talking about South, who has Windland-Irizarry-Roberts-Luke Martin as their first four. Those are four pretty good wrestlers. I think all four of those matches would be competitive. It's a shame that, because of the way the calendar falls, we won't get to see Luke Martin and Brock Whorton wrestle at WSAZ this year.

That's what I thought but I don't think Izizarry vs Flint or Roberts vs Laya are one bit competitive. Neither of the South kids will likely make it out of the second period. The other two, in my opinion, are very competitive matches. Hopefully we'll get to see it at the Z's if the calendar cooperates.
Re: Top 5 wrestlers
The calendar didn't cooperate. The OVAC tournament and WSAZ fall on the same weekend this year so South will be in Wheeling.
Re: Top 5 wrestlers
I for one, miss having matches with East. East has a tough starting first 4 and they all may be on the final stage Saturday night in Huntington.
We can talk and argue on here about who is best, I just wish the schedule allowed them to compete against each other.
I'll have to corner my friends who coach at East and see if we can make it happen next year. I may have to buy coach Geary a dinner though!

Lets do it in Coal City, maybe invite Cave Springs.
That would be like a super duel.

Re: Top 5 wrestlers
Ok, I have delivered what I could to answer the topic for AA. Who is going to give their best effort at AAA on the original topic?
On a side note, I give the edge to East Fairmont's Murderers Row to win all 4, but we will never know. Even if you can make it happen next year, their will not be the 4 we are discussing matching up like they do this year. The only thing that we can agree on, is their is alot of WV talent spread around the state and some collegiate futures and opportunities.
Somebody give me their AAA top 5.

Well when East was asked to come to the WV Duals and/or dual South home or away, it was met with a resounding NO! Given South's schedule it is obvious that they are willing to wrestle anyone. Can other teams/coaches say the same??

Hoover is missing three wrestlers that I know of.
Peyton Carey at Heavyweight (last year's runner up) He didn't wrestle as mentioned due to ACT.
Chase Stover (has placed last 2 years at States) don't know what weight class he will be. He hasn't wrestled this year. He had his appendix removed the last week of football season and missed the playoffs. Im sure he will be back after Christmas break
Colten Rollyson, dont know what weight he will be. He is recovery from a football injury as well. Should be back after Christmas break.
You add these three guys to the line-up and things change for Hoover. All three great kids and hell of wrestlers.

Individual rankings are based on past results, rumors of what weight kids will eventually end up, and mostly personal opinion. Not meant to slight anyone and if I've left off anyone from the list then I would appreciate feedback.
Team rankings are based on state or WSAZ level competition tournaments and not small bracket tournaments where kids get placement points that most likely won't at a bigger event with tougher competition.

Re: Top 5 wrestlers
This list I'm about to build is gonna be good. I'll show you that in a second. It isn't even a brag, believe me. I will build a list, a great list... and believe me, no one builds lists better than me. I will pick the greatest wrestlers. I know the best on their feet -- I'm in wood county, and I know the good ones and the bad ones. I always say, "I know the wrestlers people think are good." I know people who you've never heard of that are better than all of them. If you really love this sport you have a very, very hard time convincing people that what you’re doing is right and that you’re really smart. And, like, a lot of us are really smart. I’m really smart – I went to college. That said I will only being doing a couple weight classes because some of these weight classes have some bad wrestlers. Some of them, I'm sure are good people, but I will not be including them in this list.

Well when East was asked to come to the WV Duals and/or dual South home or away, it was met with a resounding NO! Given South's schedule it is obvious that they are willing to wrestle anyone. Can other teams/coaches say the same??
I believe so
Actually it is obviously apparent that they can't.

SMacnamare wrote:I follow mostly the lower weight classes so I can't intelligently speak on anything above 138 but I can tell you one thing.......East Fairmont has the best starting 4 in the state. Whorton/Cassucio(106), Flint(113), Laya(120) and Whorton(126) will all be state champions. Too bad either Whorton or Cassucio will not be able to make the trip to Huntington because both are the top 2 in AA/A.
The posted scores pertaining to the Oak Glen and East Fairmont dual is presented in a confusing manner. I interpret it as if both Whortons were defeated. Please provide clarification.
Holy smokes. Braxton Amos works out with a landmine now!!!!!!

We can talk and argue on here about who is best, I just wish the schedule allowed them to compete against each other.
I'll have to corner my friends who coach at East and see if we can make it happen next year. I may have to buy coach Geary a dinner though!

Your sayin East is afraid to wrestle South? And South is the only team in the State willing to wrestle anyone? Typical!!!!
