AAA Team Poll
Apparently Cabell Midland received 3 first place votes in the latest "Coaches Poll". No offense against CM but how could anyone vote them ahead of South???
What could be their rationale for placing them first? Is the voting done anonymously?

Re: AAA Team Poll
Why not? They could qualify 14 and put over half of them in the finals. They have a solid lineup. South is the favorite, but apparently 3 coaches at this time think CM is #1. I suspect more will in the near future

South fan you need to look outside of parkersburg every now and then.

You are correct "Frank" they " could " put seven in the finals...and I COULD become our next president but let's keep it real.
Re: AAA Team Poll
Yes I agree. I think you could be president. Sounds like you already have the Narcissism and closed mindedness down like Trump, my guess is you could be a front runner.

TSFIH,
Sorry for providing a logical well thought reply to your question. I did not realize it was rhetorical, it is hard to identify sarcasm in written text on a forum. As far as keeping it "real" I do not think a coach is being unrealistic if he votes the team 80% of the other coaches think is #2, #1.

Re: AAA Team Poll
Then there was that game where "virtually unbeatable" WVU team lost to Pitt ....
On any given day, injuries, outside problems, grade issues, etc. Kids can sometimes wrestle over their expected placing .... Anything can happen. I once had a kid who barely had a break even record, was not seeded at WSAZ - beat the top seed his first match and continued his hot streak all the way to the semis, ended up 4th. Never wrestled that well before or since. On the flip side I had a 3 seeded kid who got too high in a leg ride, fell off essentially and got pinned his second match. "One never knows , do one?" (Billie Holiday lyric) Predicting is an imperfect guess at best ( Unless you are Conor McGregor who "predicts these things!) Fun to do, but in high school, the coaches poll is as meaningless as Letterman's Top 10 lists. In middle school, that's all we have since there is no true state champion ... But in high school we can all watch and see when the tournament kicks off in Huntington.

I forsee the dragons of St Albans winning one real soon. Dont count them out all those mahindra kids growing up. They just won Point Pleasents tournament they will make some noise soon in the state tournament.
Re: AAA Team Poll
South has a very young team this year with many Freshmen and new starters. I think they'll be okay at the end of February, but I'm also a realist. I think Cabell has a very good team and are well coached. As Jim mentioned, anything can happen during the course of a season. The winners here are the fans who get to watch them perform. The ranting and ravings come from us adults, but it's the kids who get the job done on the mat. Best wishes to all those young men.

How could they? I think the answer is simple, they had an opinion that differs from yours.

Unlike the created usernames on this thread, coaches are assigned a username from the administrator.
The coaches vote on the poll within the coaches only forum and it's viewable by everyone. So, there's little to no anonymity when submitting the votes.
Btw, I failed to make time to vote in this weeks poll and have yet to see who voted our team above the others.

I think the votes are a stunt to draw more interest when they meet up in Huntington. An attendance ratings ploy. Kind of like the Miss Universe pageant.

If i remember right Cabell Midland only won 4 matches against Huntington. Of those 4 weigh classes they have no top ranked kids there.

Re: AAA Team Poll
My mistake i see where they have 2 top ranked kids 1 at 106 and the other at 152. Still Parkersburg South has to be #1 until someone finishes in front of them!! Cabell Midland should finish possibly 3rd behind Huntington and South!!

Re: AAA Team Poll
One also has to figure in the ever present debate - are we ranking dual teams or tournament teams. I have no doubt South is number one. That being said, a team like St. Albans or Midland looks to me like a better tournament team than Huntington but Humtington looks like a better dual team. Also, I went back are reread the scores from Huntington over Midland and noticed the lineups looked somewhat different than what we have seen at other events. Could have been gamesmanship, illness, injury, who knows? Two that stood out - Midlands #1 ranked 106 did not wrestle. In addition, their HWT. who went 9-1 and pinned the #1 kid this past weekend forfeited. All credit to HHS but those two alone may have made things a bit closer.

Midland's Heavyweight was there warming up, not sure why the Midland wrestler didn't wrestle

I actually think C.M. will have at least 8 in the finals. But I think P.S. will have 14 in the finals. I'm sure my third cousin Truesouthfaninhunt will agree with me and I don't blame him !

I guess the sting of AA team whooping you in front of your home crowd has worn off enough that you are acting like a child to make yourself feel better again. Let it go and grow up.

You say that like you think AA/A is inferior to AAA. This ain't football. There are plenty of AA/A teams that can hold their own against AAA teams.
